I read an article in the Washington Post Food Section a while back praising sipping tequila, the reposados and anejos that real Mexicans drink, without the headache powder of Margarita mix, Corona backs, "Brown Eyed Girl", or even ice. Yes, warm tequila, straight. To sip.
Like Scotch.
Well, I like Scotch to I thinks, I'm gonna give this a try. As I write I have a glass of Tequila Corralejo Anejo next to me, 100% Agave juice (it's a spiny plant that's pressed and the juice is fermented, making tequila). Most Cuervo has a bunch of sugar added to it to sweeten it, so it's fake tequila.
This stuff is the real deal. And I'm having trouble adjusting to it. I'm not picking up on the nuance of the flavor, the dimension of the scent. No, it's just kickin' my ass and I'm wishing all to hell that I had a lime to make this go down easier. I have a few sips left and I will plow through, but I just can't place the time that I'll be reaching for sipping tequila. Unless I just need to keep trying new kinds till I find the type that a Jewish gringo like me can enjoy without whipping my head around, like I just got a whiff of a dog fart.

Tequila is unlike rum or whiskey, but can be great for sipping. I'm happy to share a glass or two with you and discuss the nuances.
